How I see the new Chinese immigrants in the US (North America)

July 5, 2011

Today at the 4th of July barbecue, Vlad (friend of mine, former political refugee from the USSR) asked me if I thought one day the Chinese would stand up for their rights and happiness just like the Russians did. I said I didn’t have an answer.

I really don’t. See, the Chinese’ emotions are all tangled up. Some of them just can’t see the whole picture clearly; some others can see it, but are too timid to make a move; yet some others are just too pessimistic.

On the Chinese social network RenRen I see a lot of people are getting confused, after they land in the US. They are not used to the food, less the people. They wanna go back, but they fear to be laughed at at home; they could stay, but it’s so hard to fit in. They say the fresh-off-boats are too conservative and the locals are too wild. The hang out with the Chinese Americans, eat Chinese food, play Mah-jong, and talk Chinese gossip. Years after they have lived in this country, they still have to look up a thread online to figure out how to order a dish or see a doctor. It’s all messed up.

The Chinese in North America (and probably in most part of rest of the world, yet I don’t know them, so don’t have much to say) is a evil race. They know their country is being suppressed by a twisted power and is being pushed from twisted to more twisted. So they decide to flee. They flee by all means available, power or money. The have jacked up the housing price in Vancouver to the level of seven digits (http://vreaa.wordpress.com/2011/06/02/wsj-chinese-fuel-vancouver-home-boom/), leaving the locals in a difficult situation. And there are the young talents. A lot of them don’t have money or power (yet). They have to earn the locals’ trust and respect through their hard work.

However, they don’t care much about the trust or respect. All they need is just a permit of residence. That’s it.

As a matter of fact, most of the Chinese in the North America don’t care much about the trust or respect from the locals. They might have never really experienced trust or respect in their entire life. All they see is that, on this land, there is nobody to seize their property and/or human rights. They probably don’t give a damn about politics (if the tax rate remains intact) or faith.

They are trying to build a new colony here, an insulated territory. The colonization isn’t too different from what the pilgrims did back in the days. They buy off land, properties, and social status with money. No doubt it is a smart and diligent bunch. They know how to expand and reinforce their land of benefits. And the locals are losing grounds just like the Indians did. They can’t put up a decent fight.

And don’t the locals ever wish to gain something in return. The Chinese don’t share, love or material goods all the same. They speak their own language, eat their own food, and have their own social network. They seem to be nice and friendly, but rarely trust any outsiders. They don’t really express how they feel. They are like a virus. They have ruined their own country, watching her going down the toilet. All they care right now, is how to eat up this new host.
